Burma gold prices draw back after volatile month

Gold prices were volatile in Burma last month, fluctuating more than in any other month so far this year, local gold dealers and shop owners say.
 
The lowest local gold price in August was 688,000 kyats per tical (0.576 ounces), or about US $1194 per ounce, while the highest was 730,000 kyats per tical (about $1,267 per ounce).

Myanmar's parliament to discuss amending telecom law

A Lower House MP has tabled a proposal to amend Myanmar's Electronic Transactions Law, which was used in the past to imprison politicians and student activists.

MP Thein Nyunt made the proposal during a parliamentary session in Nay Pyi Taw on Wednesday.

Exim Bank to open Myanmar office in September

Export-Import Bank of India (EXIM Bank) will open its eighth overseas office in Yangon, the capital of Myanmar, next month, a senior official said on Friday.

This is being done as a follow-up to Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singhs recent visit to the neighbouring nation during which the two sides had signed MoUs worth $500 million for various projects.

These included $199 million worth of irrigation projects and railway projects worth $100 million. We have requested the Government to finalise the remaining projects at the earliest, said David Rasquinha, Executive Director, EXIM Bank, here.
