Peshmerga Rise as Kurds Face Down ISIS

The onslaught by Sunni Arab militants in northern Iraq has prompted the country’s Kurds to deploy the famed peshmerga security forces in defense of their autonomous region.


NCPO Ignores U.S. Labor Pressure

Col.Winthai Suwari, deputy spokesman of the Army and a spokesman for the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO), has referred the case to the United States stated of Human Trafficking (TIP) for the year 2014. Iraq Militants Take Syria Border Post in Drive For Caliphate

Sunni fighters have seized a border post on the Iraq-Syria frontier, security sources said, smashing a line drawn by colonial powers a century ago in a campaign to create an Islamic Caliphate from the Mediterranean Sea to Iran.

The militants, led by the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL), first moved into the nearby town of al-Qaim on Friday, pushing out security forces, the sources said on Saturday.

RANGOON — President Thein Sein has moved quickly to plug a hole in his cabinet lineup, nominating Deputy Religious Affairs Minister Soe Win to replace Hsan Hsint, who had led the ministry until the president sacked him in a cabinet shakeup this week.
