Bangkok 11 September, 2013 – Independent family-owned distiller William Grant & Sons (WGS) showcased its Hendrick’s Gin and Glenfiddich single malt Scotch whisky brands at the 12th King’s Cup Elephant Polo tournament in Hua Hin. Hendrick’s Brand Ambassador, Erik Andersson, led a magnificent Victorian troop of models decked in period costumes reflective of the Hendrick’s gin brand heritage and eccentricities. The troop’s “moving theatre” was a hit with guests, VIPs and celebrities alike, providing many photo opportunities to the backdrop of competitive elephant polo. Visiting celebrities in attendance during the tournament included supermodel Cindy Bishop and actor Byron Bishop, who enjoyed viewing the Glenfiddich ice sculptures as new creations were crafted each day, and Angie Hastings, who received a special demonstration from the Hendrick’s Brand Ambassador. Poy Treechada and the Miss Tiffany team visited the Hendrick’s and Glenfiddich bars for refreshing drinks before their matches, and Vilaiwan Twichasri, TAT Deputy Governor for Tourism Products and Business, took part in a photo session with the troop. The Lounge also provided a cooling spot in which to formulate polo strategy, as supermodel Metinee Kingpayome Sharples and Edward Sharples discussed tactics ahead of their final round of elephant polo action.

Marcus Low, Marketing Services Manager – Southeast Asia & Third Party Markets, William Grant and Sons, said, “We are proud to be involved with such a popular and extraordinary sporting event in Thailand. The King’s Cup Elephant Polo provided a colourful occasion filled with character for guests from various parts of Thai society to come together and celebrate, in the spirit of fun and spectacle. We are delighted to be able to showcase two of our top brands here; Glenfiddich has a particular place amongst the influential and the aspirational, which sits well with the gladiatorial polo taking place. Hendrick’s, with its reputation for attracting those seeking quirky and unusual lifestyle occasions, was particularly well received by all of our guests.”

Glenfiddich showed a series of beautiful elephant ice sculptures by renowned Thai ice artist, Alongkorn Timcharoen, displayed in its bar area in the ChindAsia Lounge and at its own exclusive VIP lounge. A range of Glenfiddich single malt Scotch whiskies were on offer to tournament guests, ranging from Glenfiddich 12 Year old, the world’s best-selling single malt, through to the multi award-winning Glenfiddich 21 Year Old.

Hendrick’s demonstrated its unique take on the gin and tonic where this most unusual gin is served with tonic water and garnished with a slice of Japanese cucumber, complementing the small batch gin’s surprising ingredients of rose petal and cucumber. Hendrick’s Gin is produced in Scotland in very small batches of less than 450 litres. This “Gin Made Oddly” is becoming increasingly popular in Asia amongst spirit connoisseurs eager to try something different from the norm.
